Future Talgarth: Re-opening Abandoned Railways

This project details the futures of thousands of cities across the globe as though they've somehow overcome all the grave environmental challenges our age and grown to become super-Green and super-ecofriendly. This month, we highlight the future of the Welsh town of Talgarth.

Talgarth, a small market town in Wales, has a rich industrial and transport history. In the 19th century, it thrived on agriculture and small-scale industries like milling and weaving.

The arrival of the railway in the mid-19th century boosted its economy, facilitating the transportation of goods and people. However, like many rural areas, Talgarth saw a decline in industry in the 20th century, with the railway closing in the 1960s.

Today, it remains a picturesque town with remnants of its industrial past, relying more on tourism and agriculture for its economy.

The train closures in 1960s Wales had a devastating impact on both the economy and the social fabric of the region.
